Global urgency
Every year around the world, a third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted. This huge amount of food waste accounts for almost 10% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
Saving energy in food production and combating food waste both help to limit greenhouse gas emissions, which are essential if we are to curb global warming. These combined actions play a key role in the transition to a more sustainable future.
Integrated approach
To meet these challenges, MerAlliance has set up a specific organisation dedicated to environmental and energy issues
A dedicated governance structure has also been put in place, with a Carbon Steering Committee that brings together the Administrative & Financial, CSR and Technical & Methods departments on a monthly basis.
Our goals
Reducing our energy consumption :
- Water: -24% (2023 vs 2022)
- Electricity: -6% (2023 vs 2022)
Reducing food waste :
- Contribution to the creation of a local waste methanisation process in Quimper
- Recovery of process by-products
- Unsold products: destocking, donations to local associations, sale to employees at reduced prices
