Responsible aquaculture

Global urgency
Aquaculture accounts for over 50% of the world’s fish production. It is an essential pillar for feeding a growing population, and is set to more than double between 2021 and 2030.
Pressure on marine ecosystems, deforestation, ecosystem health, traceability and adaptation to climate change are all challenges facing aquaculture.
Through our sourcing choices, encouraging responsible and transparent aquaculture practices is therefore essential to guarantee a balance between production and preservation of resources.

Integrated approach
For both salmon and trout, we guarantee responsible sourcing from selected and certified farms, with full traceability of the product from egg to shop.
With the aim of providing a quality product with complete transparency on the market, MerAlliance has created its own certified Norwegian supply chain with a traceability site accessible to the consumer.
We work closely with our suppliers. As a member of Earthworm’s Aquafeed, MerAlliance is involved in efforts to reduce dependence on industrial fishing by incorporating alternative ingredients into salmon feed: feather proteins, insects, algae, etc.
Our goals
To select fish from farms that minimise the impact on ecosystems:
100%
of our salmon and trout supplies are certified (ASC, Global Gap, Organic, Label Rouge or CIPA)
100%
of the soya used to feed our fish does not come from deforestation.
